Case notes

Six evenings, described honestly

Client names are withheld by agreement — that is normal for private and corporate work, and we would rather publish anonymised detail than invent recognisable logos.

Corporate

Company functions

The largest part of our work, and the part with the most paperwork in front of it.

Manitoba technology company

Year-end function · 180 guests · November

A function room that usually emptied by nine

Brief
Three years of the same hotel ballroom, a buffet and a DJ. Attendance had been falling year on year and the social committee wanted something that would hold a mixed room past the speeches.
What we ran
Four tables — two roulette, one blackjack, one poker-themed — with six hosts and a floor lead. Chips carried the company mark. A standings screen sat beside the bar rather than on a stage.
Outcome
The room was still busy at 23:30, which the committee told us had not happened since before the pandemic. They re-booked for the following year before we had finished the strike.

“Nobody left after the speeches. That had never happened before.”

International consulting firm

Client reception · 120 guests · Winnipeg

An evening that had to clear a compliance review

Brief
A client-facing reception where the entertainment needed sign-off from a compliance team with no appetite for anything resembling gambling. The brief arrived with a list of words that could not appear anywhere.
What we ran
Three tables, hosts briefed to the client’s own wording, no leaderboard and no “winner” language anywhere in the room. Printed table guides used the client’s approved phrasing.
Outcome
Approved without a follow-up question. The firm has since used the same wording for two further events in other cities.

“We had a compliance review before we could sign anything. Chip and Chance sent the no-money, no-prizes terms over the same afternoon and it went through without a single follow-up question.”

Corporate year-end function

Fly-in venue · 90 guests · Northern Manitoba

A venue with no road to it

Brief
A company with a northern operation wanted its year-end function on site rather than flying staff south. Two previous entertainment suppliers had quoted and then withdrawn.
What we ran
Two tables freighted in cases, two hosts and a lead travelling with the kit. Load-in through a single door, set in ninety minutes, strike the same night to clear the room for the morning.
Outcome
Delivered on the date as quoted. Travel and freight were itemised separately, which the client’s finance team specifically asked us to keep doing.

Client names are withheld by agreement, so these are anonymised summaries of the kind of work we take on rather than endorsements from named brands. No participant at any event described received money or a prize of monetary value.

Private and VIP

Private occasions

Smaller rooms, shorter guest lists, and almost always a host who would like to enjoy their own party.

Premium milestone birthday

Private party · 45 guests · Winnipeg

A sixtieth, at home, with a difficult guest list

Brief
Three generations of adults who did not know each other well, in a house with one large living room and a conservatory. No speeches, no dancing, and a host who did not want to spend the evening introducing people.
What we ran
Two tables in the living room with a host each, a quieter blackjack table in the conservatory. All kit carried in through a single front door and up four steps.
Outcome
Guests rotated between the two rooms for about four hours. The host told us afterwards they had not had to introduce anyone twice.

“I did not have to work the room once. The tables did it for me.”

Private client

Exclusive private event

VIP format · 24 guests · venue withheld

The evening that was not supposed to look organised

Brief
A private dining room, a short guest list, and an explicit instruction that it should not feel like an event. Confidentiality agreement signed before the first planning call.
What we ran
Two reserved tables with a dedicated host each, styled to the restaurant rather than to us. No signage, no standings, no closing announcement. Crew set up before guests were in the building.
Outcome
Three guests asked afterwards who had arranged the tables, having assumed the restaurant did it.

“That was exactly the result we wanted.”

Programmes and trade

Team building and agency work

HR team-building programme

Daytime session · 60 participants

Two teams that had never been in a room together

Brief
Engineering and finance, constant email contact, almost no face-to-face. The people and culture team wanted mixing rather than a party, and had been burned by a previous team-building supplier.
What we ran
A two-hour daytime session in the company cafeteria. Three tables, deliberate rotations built against the team structure, and a twenty-minute facilitated debrief on decisions under uncertainty.
Outcome
The debrief ran over by ten minutes because people kept talking. The programme has since been repeated with a second cohort.

“Two of our engineers spent the whole second rotation explaining probability to a group from finance. We have been trying to get those two teams in a room together for a year.”

People and culture lead

Event agency partner

White-label crew · 6 hosts · December

Crew only, under someone else’s brand

Brief
An agency with its own tables and a December diary beyond its crew capacity needed six hosts for a client function, introduced as part of the agency team.
What we ran
Six hosts and a floor lead, formal dress with no visible branding, briefed to the agency’s run sheet and introduced under its name. Our contact details stayed out of the room.
Outcome
Three further calls that month. The agency now books crew from us as a matter of course for December overflow.

Service limits

Offline entertainment only. This is strictly offline event entertainment. There is no real-money gambling, no betting, no cash prizes, and no online casino service. Guests play with symbolic chips and points that hold no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for anything of value. Events are for adults aged 18+ and over.

Symbolic chips only

Guests receive unmarked chips or points at the start of the evening. They carry no monetary value, cannot be purchased, cannot be cashed out and cannot be exchanged for anything of value.

18+, checked at the door

Our hosts support your venue in checking age on entry. We do not run events for under-age guests and we do not market to them.

Offline, in your venue

Everything happens in a physical room, with physical tables and a human host. We operate no platform where anyone can play, and no app.

Your evening

None of these started with a clear brief

Every one of them began as a date, a room and a vague idea. Send us those three things and we will help you work out the rest.
