1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels, tags and software development kits — do comparable jobs and are covered by this policy wherever we refer to “cookies”.
Some are strictly necessary for a site to function. Others exist to measure how a site performs, or to support advertising. Canadian privacy law requires that you be told clearly what is being used and for what purpose, and that meaningful consent be obtained for anything beyond the strictly necessary. That is what the banner on this site is for.
2. The three categories
- Essential
- Always active. Strictly necessary for the site to work. Never used for analytics or advertising.
- Analytics
- Off until you switch it on. Measures how pages perform. Controls
analytics_storage. - Marketing
- Off until you switch it on. Advertising measurement, remarketing, conversion tracking and ads personalization. Controls
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalization.
Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories is pre-ticked, and no cookie from either category is set before you make a choice.
3. Essential cookies
These are the only things stored before you decide anything:
ccsess- A session cookie. Keeps the enquiry form’s security token valid so that the form cannot be submitted from another site on your behalf. Expires when you close your browser.
cc_consent_v1- Stored in your browser’s local storage rather than as a cookie. Records your cookie choice and the date you made it, so you are not asked again on every page. Stays on your device until you clear it or change your choice.
Neither of these enables analytics or advertising storage, neither is used to track you across sites, and neither is sent to any third party.
Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs for security and reliability, as described in section 2.3 of the Privacy Policy. Those are not cookies and exist regardless of your choice.
4. Analytics cookies
If you switch analytics on, we may use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages are useful and where visitors give up. Typical cookies in this category are _ga and _ga_<container-id>, which hold a randomly generated identifier for your browser.
This category controls the analytics_storage consent signal. While it is denied, Google Analytics does not write a cookie and does not store an analytics identifier for you.
If you withdraw analytics consent later, we actively attempt to clear _ga, _gid and _gat cookies from this domain in addition to updating the consent signal.
5. Marketing cookies
If you switch marketing on, we may use Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing. Typical cookies in this category are _gcl_au, _gcl_aw and _gcl_dc, which record that you arrived from an advertisement so that a later enquiry can be attributed to it.
This category controls three consent signals together: ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization. While they are denied, no advertising cookie is written, no user data is sent for advertising purposes, and no personalization occurs.
Advertising personalization only ever operates with your consent. If you withdraw it, we update the signals and attempt to clear the _gcl_* cookies from this domain.
Conversion tracking, where enabled, fires on our thank-you page after an enquiry is sent — and only within the consent state you have chosen.
6. Google services and data sharing
Where Google services are used on this site and you have consented, some data may be shared with Google and processed by Google under its own terms. Please read:
- How Google uses data from sites or apps that use Google services
- Google — business data responsibility and privacy information
Oversight of PIPEDA compliance in Canada sits with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
7. Google Consent Mode v2
Consent Mode v2 is implemented on every page of this site. Before any choice is made, the first consent instruction sent is:
ad_storage: deniedanalytics_storage: deniedad_user_data: deniedad_personalization: denied
That instruction is placed above every other script in the page, so it cannot be overtaken by a tag loading first. When you choose, a consent update is sent carrying granted or denied for each signal according to your selection:
- Accept all
- All four signals granted.
- Decline
- All four signals remain denied.
- Analytics only
analytics_storage: granted. The three advertising signals stay denied.- Marketing only
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalizationgranted.analytics_storagestays denied.
While advertising consent is denied we additionally enable ads_data_redaction. Your stored choice is re-applied on each page you load, so a granted state persists and a denied state is never quietly reset.
8. How to accept, decline or customise
When you first arrive, a banner appears at the bottom of the page. It does not cover the content, does not block you from reading or navigating the site, and does not prevent search engines or Google AdsBot from crawling it. It offers three equally prominent buttons:
- Accept all — allows analytics and marketing.
- Decline — keeps everything non-essential off.
- Customise — opens the preferences dialog where you can allow each category separately.
The three buttons are deliberately identical in size, colour, border and typography. Declining takes exactly one click, the same as accepting.
9. Changing or withdrawing consent
Every page of this site has a Change cookie settings link in the footer. It reopens the preferences dialog with your current choice shown, so you can change any category or withdraw consent entirely at any time. Withdrawing takes effect immediately.
If you clear your browser’s storage, your stored choice disappears and the banner will ask again — which is the correct behaviour, since we no longer have a record of your decision.
10. Browser-level controls
You can also manage or block cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you delete existing cookies or refuse new ones. Blocking essential cookies may stop the enquiry form from working, since its security token depends on a session cookie.
Some browsers send a “do not track” or global privacy signal. These are not consistently defined across browsers, so we do not rely on them in place of your explicit choice here — the setting you make on this site is what governs our behaviour.
11. What we will not do
- No pre-ticked analytics or marketing checkboxes.
- No cookie wall — you never have to accept anything to read the site.
- No dark patterns, and no decline button hidden behind an extra step or styled to be less visible.
- No treating scrolling, closing the banner, pressing Escape or navigating as consent.
- No loading analytics or advertising cookies before consent.
- No making it harder to withdraw consent than to give it.
No real third-party tracking container ships with this website as published. The consent framework is in place so that one can be added without ever firing ahead of your choice.
